20th Dick Purtan Radiothon sets new record

20th Purtan WOMC RadiothonIf you’re like me and disappointed at not being able to attend the annual WOMC radiothon to benefit the Salvation Army this year they live-blogged the whole thing with pictures so you can see what was happening, pretty cool if you ask me.  Its always fun to get out to Oakland Mall once a year and see the whole group.  I was able to listen on my way to and from work and it sounded like they had a lot of big matching donors this year, and considerable action from the new online donations.

The Great Flood of 2007

February 14th, 2007

Got of bit of a surprise when we came home today, not exactly the quiet evening we had been planning. I didn’t get to see the worst of it since I got home later, but Sarah described it as raining in the hallway. Yes in the wonderful Michigan winter, a sprinkler pipe burst in our hallway ceiling flooding all the apartments on the second and first floors. There seemed to be a small slant away from our side of the building so we were thankfully spared the worst of the damage. Basically our dining room and a fraction of our living room had the carpet soaked. Fortunately the crack maintenance team here at Central Park Apartments sprang into action rushing over with pumps, cutting up carpet padding, and deploying fans and heaters. Once dry they sent over more maintenance to re-pad the carpet and then ran the cleaning machines. By Friday night we were good as new. All in all we’re probably better off, we got a free carpet cleaning, and the incident prompted us to do some early spring cleaning and even reorganized the furniture in the living room to have a much more pleasing flow. The hallway is still torn up as they fix the ceiling and pipes, and the people on the other side of the building will probably require more extensive work. All in all I feel pretty lucky.

Ultimately our Valentine’s Day went off all right.  Just moved the table into the living room and enjoyed a delicious fondue dinner (thanks to Sarah).  Not one we will soon forget that’s for sure!
