Emily had a road race today on Michigan’s campus, so it was the perfect chance to get out and see some roadie action being in my back yard and all. The race was 45 minutes in a circuit format, each lap was about 1.9 miles according to the flyer. The start was right in front of the Chrysler Center, with a decent climb up Murfin and Baits, looping back in on mostly flat or downhill roads. Temps were chilly in the low to mid 30s, with a good wind coming on that didn’t help much. Click the pic below for all the pix:

Didn’t get the official results, but looks like she finished 7th or so. The team did a 40-miler the day before, and followed up this race with a time trial. That’s a lot of racing for one weekend!

Dave is doing the “Breast Cancer 3-Day”
This year, I’ll be participating in a very special event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day. On September 26, 2008 , I’ll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other men and women taking this journey with me.
It’s for an event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I’ve agreed to raise at least $2,200 in donations. So I need your help. Would you please consider making a tax-deductible donation. Keep in mind how far I’m walking - and how hard I’ll have to train.
Just follow the link below to visit my personal fundraising webpage and make a donation. If you don’t want to donate online, please download and print a donation form and mail it to the address on the form. Or you can call 800.996.3DAY to donate over the phone. I would like to reach my fundraising goal by August 31, so don’t delay!
Without a cure, one in eight women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer. That’s why I’m walking in the 3-Day. Because everyone deserves a lifetime.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email, and thank you for your support.
Follow this link if you want to donate to Dave’s effort.
Eric is doing the walk too!

For the most part, installing this door was pretty easy and straight forward. The parts sort of assume that your tub surround is perfectly square, which it isn’t. Probably the most difficult part was caulking the surrounds, something I’ve never done before. Making it look clean and professional is a bit of a trick. The doors are really flipping heavy, these are real tempered glass - the Plexiglas ones are much lighter I hear. And hacksawing the top and bottom rails to fit was quite a chore. If you have access to a nice metal-cutting band saw, I highly recommend it.

That’s right, much to the chagrin o f mountain bikers everywhere, this year’s Iceman race entries were selected by random lottery drawing. John, Eric and I all entered under a single entry to get in all or nothing, and it looks like nothing won out. There is the slim possibility that someone who won will end up not registering and we could then get picked after the 15th, but I’m not holding my breath. Then there’s always the secondary market. Not sure if its really worth the trouble, I suppose if I could find an entry sometime this year at face value I might go for it, but there’s no way I’m paying over, the race is already on the pricey side for what it is.
